Project Brief

Using the absence of modern manufacturing processes, such as electric sewing machines, people are forced to re-produce and re-use objects or materials for the day to day needs of the future. With this in mind I will design and produce a survival rucksack out of collected objects and materials. I will attach and piece together everything by hand, as I would if I had to start again completely from scratch without modern day technology. To help me develop my initial ideas I will research into the films given to explore clothing and other ways of re-producing. Also researching into alternative ways of attaching items together. By researching these things it will help me further to understand what it would be like to start again with very little of what’s left. The next stage of my project will involve observation of the rubbish around me and objects I can use in a completely different way. From this observation I will start to collect items to make my rucksack and additional accessories, which would enable me to live a day to day life if only in a limited way. The result shows re-production through new means including elements for survival with minimal resources.
